UtilityWiki

Brief Summary

A UtilityWiki is a wiki of general public utility.

Description

The vast majority of wiki are not utility wiki -- instead, each one focuses on its own specific field of interest.

An internet-savvy individual knows all the utility wiki (the same for every person), plus the wiki dedicated to her field(s) of interest (which vary from person to person).

wiki for purposes other than communication

There are two definitions of UtilityWiki:

Wiki for purposes other than communication may include text warehouses, image stores, or private contacts databases, kept in wiki.

That second definition looks like it also includes PersonalWiki? ( Wiki:PersonalWiki ) such as PersonalInformationWiki? ( http://c2.com/cgi/wiki?WikiAsPim ) . -- DavidCary

How do you feel about removing the 2nd definition- "a wiki for purposes other than communication?"

When I made up the term "UtilityWiki," I originally meant both. But nobody knows about text warehousing, and nobody knows about image stores. The additional baggage seems unnecessary.

Let's just make it the first term.

OK, done. But we should move this list of "other kinds of wiki" to some other page -- where?

So do we need to make up a new term for "a wiki for purposes other than communication" ?

Or is it better just to make a page listing the types of wiki (what to name it?) that lists

general non-wiki utilities

These aren't wiki, so I wouldn't include them either.

One day, there will be a wiki like wiklossary, but probably more tutorial-ish, for description of using basic Internet resources- google, IRC, usenet, stuff like that. But this is not that place, I don't feel.

General non-wiki utilities aren't completely on-topic here at WikLossary?. But until I find some other wiki where they are more on-topic, I suppose this is the best place to list them.

So is http://constantsun.com/minitext/ a kind of "text warehousing" utility?
